Field sample preparation for workplace environmental monitoring

Occupational Hygiene Measurements and Workplace Environmental Measurements

Occupational hygiene measurements are planned to represent the actual exposure conditions of workers in relation to the source of the hazard.

Under what conditions is the measurement plan drawn up?

The plan is drawn up by jointly assessing the physical, chemical or biological hazard sources identified in the risk assessment, along with the process, employee group, shift, duration of exposure and existing control measures. Personal exposure measurements and ambient measurements in a selected area serve different purposes and do not represent the same result.

The method to be applied for noise, dust, vibration, lighting, thermal comfort, gas, vapour or VOCs; the measurement or sampling point and duration shall be determined separately. Process and site conditions, deviations from standard operating procedures, the equipment and methods used, and measurement uncertainty shall be stated in the report to ensure that the results can be interpreted in a traceable manner.

Occupational Hygiene Measurements Frequently Asked Questions
